Winching tips
How to make use of your winch and accessories mostly.
Use a pulley block and double especially triple the capacity of your winch. Also, pully blocks could be used for self recovery, direct pulling, and indirect pulling.
The anchor point must be secure, such as a tree, another vehicle or other firm object. For direct vehicle recovery, attach the pulley block to the anchor point and then feed the wire rope out from the winch, through the block and back to an appropriate point of attachment on the vehicle such as the frame of the vehicle.
If there is no straight and clear line to an anchor point, an indirect pull is used. A snatch block is very useful in this regard as it helps you to redirect the cable for the able pull. You can be very creative in how you rig an angle pull. The angle pull even allows you to pull another vehicle forward while you are behind.
Never attach your winch wire rope to tree directly, please use a tree protector strap to avoid damaging your cable and the tree.
It will cause danger if the cable brake when winching. Put a mat on the rope to avoid the broken rope shaking.
Keep the cable feeding through the fairlead as straight as possible, which will help the rope wrapping smoothly across the drum.
Follow safety guidelines when winching.
Maintain your winch and accessories regularly.
Inspect your rope before and after winching operation. Keep winch, rope and the like clean to improve the life. If necessary, light oil on the wire rope and winch hook can prevent rust and corrosion.
Also check and maintain the battery.
Winch CapacityRated line pull
The first important consideration in choosing a winch is the winch’s rated line pull. This is a combination of the mechanical capacity of the winch and the tensile strength of the line on the drum. The important part to remember is that, generally speaking, rated capacity is based on the first layer of winch cable , namely the one closest to the drum. Typically, there are three or four layers and that first one has the “lowest” gear ratio and the most pull.
Then how much pull is enough? Select a winch with a capacity of 1.5 times the Gross Vehicle WeightGVW. This is the weight of the vehicle alonecurb weight, plus the weigh of the items on and in your vehicle.
But this rating is just that, a minimum. Certain factors can quickly cause your winch capacity to be exceeded so you need to think about your intended usage. Be aware that certain terrains and situations can put a much greater demand on a winch over the typical 1.5 multiplication rule of thumb. Please choose a right winch according to your particular applications.
Line Speed
Line speed refers to how fast a winch can power the cable in or out. Many winches are extremely fast under non-loaded but all will slow down drastically under a load. Most are in the 2-5 feet-per-minute range under load. Bear in mind that a winch that’s extremely fast under a load is likely to require lots of electrical power to deliver that performance.
Rope
There are two choices available for winching, wire rope and synthetic rope.Wire or Steel rope is traditional choice. Wire rope is more resistant to abrasion than synthetic. Its also heat resistant and relatively inexpensive. It is also mcuh heavier. Synthetic rope is much lighter, and generally drops dead with minimal “snap” when something breaks. Its also stronger in an equivalent diameter to wi
